LifeSize Video Conferencing Line-up enhanced by the Bridge 2200

The Video Conferencing industry has been waiting with a level of expectancy to see what would be the next product to be released by LifeSize following their recent acquisition by Logitech.  LifeSize had established a reputation for producing products that were ground-breaking technically, whilst offering a price performance unmatched by their competitors.  The Bridge 2200 has once again maintained that tradition and is arguably redefining the infrastructure market place whilst enhancing the LifeSize Video Conferencing reputation.

The Bridge 2200 is a 16-port video MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) for handling multi-party HD video calling which is contained all within a 2U rack mountable chassis.  Support is included for those 16 participants at frame rates up to 1,920 by 1,080 at 30fps (1080p30, consuming 1.7Mbps of bandwidth) or 1,280 by 720 at 60fps (720p60, consuming 1.1Mbps).  This all sounds very impressive, however the real innovation by LifeSize is the price.  At £54,299 RRP this equates to a cost per port of £3,394 which is approximately a third of the port cost of comparable equipment from any other manufacturer including Polycom or Radvision.  LifeSize have also designed the Bridge 2200 with an encoder for each participant, thereby ensuring that every user receives the quality of service that their endpoint can handle, be it a notebook-and-webcam setup or a hardware codec.
